Job Title: Gyro Specialist
Roles and Responsibilities
- Oversee the setup and execution of gyroscopic surveys to ensure accurate monitoring of pipeline alignment and direction during directional drilling operations.
- Operate gyro systems to accurately measure the borehole path and compare it to the proposed design specifications.
- Provide real-time adjustments and corrections during the drilling process based on gyro survey data to avoid deviations from the intended route.
- Analyze gyroscopic data to assess drilling performance and make recommendations to improve efficiency and alignment accuracy.
- Prepare detailed reports of gyroscopic survey results for project teams and stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate records of gyro readings, deviations, and changes in the borehole direction.
- Perform gyro surveys to measure borehole trajectories in real-time.
- Calibrate and maintain gyro survey equipment to ensure accuracy.
- Analyze survey data to determine borehole deviations and provide corrective recommendations
- Prepare detailed reports and present findings to project teams
- Collaborate with drilling teams to ensure alignment with project specifications.
- Ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards during survey operations.
- Set up, calibrate, and maintain gyroscopic equipment to ensure optimal performance throughout the pipeline construction project.
- Perform regular checks on gyro systems to ensure their functionality and accuracy.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with gyro systems to minimize downtime during drilling operations.
- Work closely with the drilling crew, engineers, and survey teams to ensure alignment between gyroscopic data and drilling activities.
- Provide support and advice to the directional drilling team to optimize borehole path and ensure precise drilling.
- Assist in planning and executing complex pipeline crossings that require specialized gyro techniques.
- Verify that the gyroscopic survey data meets project standards and specifications.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards for gyro operations and survey data collection.
- Perform regular calibration checks on all gyroscopic equipment to guarantee data integrity and accuracy.
- Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations related to gyro operations in pipeline construction.
- Ensure proper documentation of safety checks and operational reports.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Candidates should possess a Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Geophysical), Surveying, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8+ years of hands-on experience working with gyroscopic or directional survey equipment in pipeline construction or directional drilling projects.
- Must be certified in the following areas of competence: IADD Certification on gyro applications in directional drilling, API RP 78: Qualification for directional drilling operations, API RP 7G: Guidance on drill string design and bottomhole assembly, Autodesk AutoCAD, Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP).
