Job Title: Underwater Welder
Roles and Responsibilities
- Perform high-quality welding on submerged pipelines, steel structures, and other construction components using underwater welding techniques such as wet welding or hyperbaric welding.
- Ensure welds meet the project’s specifications, quality standards, and codes.
- Inspect pipeline integrity and perform necessary weld repairs, including addressing defects such as cracks, corrosion, or other types of damage.
- Conduct underwater non-destructive testing (NDT) to verify weld quality and pipeline stability.
- Operate underwater diving equipment, including diving masks, helmets, suits, and other safety systems.
- Collaborate with engineers and project managers to perform pre-welding and post-welding assessments to ensure operational safety.
- Comply with all safety regulations, including proper diving procedures, to ensure safe working conditions for both the welder and other team members.
- Be responsible for maintaining an up-to-date diving log and ensuring all underwater welding procedures are fully documented.
- Set up and operate underwater welding equipment, including torches, electrodes, diving bells, and breathing apparatuses.
- Perform routine inspection, maintenance, and troubleshooting of welding and diving equipment to ensure it is in proper working order before, during, and after dives.
- Work closely with a team of divers, engineers, and construction personnel to plan and execute welding operations efficiently.
- Provide technical input regarding underwater welding operations, specific material challenges, and potential welding difficulties during project planning.
- Assist in creating detailed as-built reports for pipeline integrity and maintenance planning.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Candidates should possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 8 years experience in underwater welding, preferably in pipeline construction or offshore oil and gas industries.
- Must be certified in the following areas of competence: Certified Welder, AWS Certified Welder for underwater welding, API 577 Welding Certification, IMCA Diving Certification, and DMT Diving certification.
