Job Title: Slurry Specialist
Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of advanced slurry systems for pipeline construction projects, focusing on directional drilling, open trenching, and trenchless technology.
- Collaborate with project managers to align slurry operations with overall project timelines, budgets, and technical goals.
- Develop custom slurry compositions based on in-depth geotechnical assessments, pipe dimensions, and project-specific requirements.
- Optimize slurry formulations to enhance soil stabilization, borehole integrity, and lubrication during drilling.
- Introduce innovations in slurry systems to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and minimize environmental impacts.
- Prepare, mix, and test slurry to ensure proper viscosity, density, and other parameters.
- Monitor slurry circulation and pressure systems during operations to ensure efficiency.
- Oversee real-time monitoring of slurry properties, including viscosity, density, gel strength, and filtration loss, ensuring consistency and efficiency.
- Manage the selection, calibration, and maintenance of slurry-related equipment, including pumps, mixers, and separation systems.
- Analyze soil conditions and adjust slurry formulations as required.
- Perform regular inspections, maintenance, and troubleshooting of slurry pumps, tanks, and pipelines.
- Maintain detailed logs of slurry operations, including quantities used and system performance.
- Troubleshoot complex equipment issues and ensure minimal downtime during operations.
- Ensure slurry operations meet all local, national, and international environmental standards.
- – Collaborate with operators and engineers to ensure smooth operation of tunneling systems.
- – Identify and mitigate potential slurry-related risks during construction to protect workers, assets, and the environment.
- – Provide expert-level technical support during critical phases of the project, including complex geologies and challenging bore paths.
- – Train and mentor team members on slurry system design, handling, safety, and operational best practices.
- Serve as the key point of contact for slurry-related inquiries from stakeholders, contractors, and regulators.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- At least 8 years of experience in slurry design, application, and management within pipeline construction or related sectors, with proven expertise in Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD), micro tunneling, or similar trenchless construction techniques.
- Must be certified in the following areas of competence: Certified Drilling Fluids Specialist from API or IADC, Certified GINT User or MudPro Certified
