Job Title: Mechanical HVAC Engineer
Job Purpose
- To oversee and execute all on-site HVAC installation, commissioning, and quality control activities for power plant and substation projects, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, safety standards, and project timelines.
Key Responsibilities
Project Execution & Supervision:
Lead installation of:
- Air-cooled & water-cooled chiller systems with AHUs
- DX systems (AHU, VRF, split, cassette, ductable, package units etc)
- HVAC ducting networks and refrigerant & piping systems
Supervise testing procedures:
- Refrigerant leak testing
- Pressure testing (hydronic & refrigerant systems)
- Air and water balancing
Manage material logistics:
- Coordinate timely delivery of HVAC equipment/materials
- Maintain proper storage and handling procedures.
Maintenance Operations (O&M Phase):
Preventive Maintenance:
- Implement scheduled maintenance plans for:
- Chillers (condenser/evaporator cleaning)
- AHUs (filter changes, belt adjustments)
- Cooling towers (water treatment)
- Maintain lubrication schedules for rotating equipment.
Corrective Maintenance:
- Troubleshoot system failures:
- Refrigerant leaks
- Compressor faults
- Control system malfunctions
- Emergency breakdown response.
- Performance Optimization:
- Energy efficiency monitoring
- VFD tuning for pumps/fans
- Refrigerant charge optimization.
Team & Resource Management:
- Organize work crews:
- Assign supervisors, fitters, and assistants
- Verify all personnel have proper safety certifications.
- Tool and equipment management:
- Ensure availability of all required tools (power/hand tools, lifts, scaffolding)
- Maintain calibration records for testing equipment
- Conduct daily toolbox talks and safety briefings.
Quality Control & Documentation:
Implement quality assurance processes:
- Conduct inspections per ITP (Inspection & Test Plan)
- Prepare RFI’s with supporting documentation (IFC drawings, method statements).
Maintain records:
- Daily progress reports
- Non-conformance reports
- Test certificates.
Coordinate with QC team for:
- Material inspections
- Weld inspections
- Final system testing.
Planning & Coordination
Develop 3-week and 1-month look-ahead plans for:
- Manpower requirements
- Material procurement
- Equipment mobilization.
Attend coordination meetings with:
- Civil/structural teams for builder’s work
- Electrical teams for power/control wiring
- Client/consultant representatives
- Resolve technical clashes using MEP coordination drawings.
Technical Competencies
Proficient in interpreting:
- HVAC shop drawings
- P&ID diagrams
- Electrical control schematics.
Working knowledge of:
- SMACNA duct construction standards
- ASHRAE refrigerant piping practices
- NFPA safety codes
- Experience with:
- Chiller plant commissioning,
- BMS interface testing
- TAB (Test, Adjust, Balance) procedures.
Qualifications
- Education: B.Tech / B.E in Mechanical Engineering
- Experience: 10 – 15 years in Power Plant & Substation HVAC Systems.
