Job Title: Surveillance Officer
Purpose of the Job
- Monitor, investigate, and report irregularities in energy usage to identify and address revenue leakages, theft, and commercial losses, while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The Surveillance Officer, shall therefore be responsible, but not limited, for the following:
- Conduct field investigations and inspections to identify potential revenue leakages, theft, or irregularities in energy usage.
- Monitor and report instances of meter tampering, illegal connections, and other activities contributing to Commercial losses.
- Assist in implementing strategies and measures designed to minimise revenue losses
- Collect and document evidence of irregularities, ensuring proper management of potential enforcement actions or legal proceedings.
- Collaborate with the Revenue Protection Enforcement Supervisor and other team members to prioritize surveillance activities based on identified high-risk areas.
- Coordinating periodic surveillance checks for both customers and field commercial staff to ensure compliance.
- Prepare detailed surveillance reports and recommend corrective actions to reduce losses
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards (NERC regulations) during surveillance and enforcement activities.
- Liaise with law enforcement agencies or legal teams when necessary for prosecution or resolution of detected violations.
- Maintain detailed records of surveillance activities and outcomes for internal and external reporting.
- Prepare periodic reports for the attention of the Revenue Protection Enforcement Supervisor.
- Perform any other tasks as assigned by the Revenue Protection Enforcement Supervisor.
Minimum Educational & Professional Qualifications, Experience and Knowledge
- Higher National Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in the Electricity Supply Industry
- Full Membership of a Relevant Professional Body.
