Job Title: Environment and WASH Officer
Position Summary
- The Environment and WASH Officer will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing activities related to environmental protection, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) in the state.
- The officer will work closely with community structures, local authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure effective delivery of WASH activities, hygiene promotion campaigns, and community led environmental initiatives.
- The role also involves building community capacity to sustain improved practices of all environment and WASH activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and implement project activities focused on environmental conservation, climate resilience, and WASH improvement in target communities.
- Facilitate community sensitization on safe water use, sanitation practices, hygiene behavior change, and environmental protection.
- Support the establishment and strengthening of community-based WASH activities and environmental monitoring groups.
- Liaise with local authorities and other partners to leverage resources and coordinate WASH/environment interventions.
- Prepare and submit timely activity reports, success stories, and lessons learned.
- Ensure that all project activities are implemented in compliance with donor, organizational, and local regulatory standards.
- Support GPD resource mobilization effort
- Carry out other task assigned by management
Qualifications & Experience
- BSc / HND in Environmental Science, Public Health, Water Resources Management, Civil/Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in implementing WASH and/or environmental projects, preferably within NGOs or community development programs.
- Strong knowledge of community led WASH programming, environmental conservation practices, and hygiene promotion.
- Excellent facilitation, communication, and report writing skills.
- Ability to work independently, travel frequently to field sites, and adapt to diverse community settings.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to make sound judgment and decisions and offer innovative solutions.
- Strong relations management abilities. Ability to relate to people at all levels internally and externally.
- Good presentation and facilitation skills.
- Proactive, resourceful, solutions-oriented and results-oriented.
- Strong understanding of WASH principles, standards, and best practices.
