UNICEF Nigeria is looking for a new Innovation Manager to help provide the children of Nigeria new and improved solutions that help improve their lives. Working with a large and dynamic country office team in a vibrant country with a huge innovation and technology ecosystem, this position is uniquely placed to have an impact.
The country office already has a large innovation portfolio across its work, with a focus on health, child protection water, sanitation and hygiene, nutrition, education and creating opportunities for young people. Examples of ongoing initiatives include digital birth registration, the Youth Marketplace (YOMA) which connects young people to opportunities, and many more.
The innovation manager would successfully manage these initiatives to scale-up, while at the same time scanning the local and global landscape for new opportunities to add to the innovation portfolio.
The successful candidate would have experience implementing a strategic innovation approach in a development context in a low- or middle-income country. Experience within UNICEF or another international organization is an asset. A problem-solving mindset and a drive for results are essential.
How can you make a difference?
Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Management for Results, the Innovation Manager will be accountable for providing technical leadership and support to innovation planning/design, implementation, monitoring and documentation across programme sectoral areas and with partners, supporting the achievement of UNICEF’s priorities. They will work closely with programme sections, nine zonal offices, as well as government, UN, NGO and private sector partners.
This role aims to manage, lead, and support demand for innovative processes and Technology for Development (T4D) driven programmatic support. UNICEF programmes increasingly leverage digital means for effective programme delivery, systems strengthening and monitoring. S/He will provide (1) Strategic guidance to programme teams in the identification, assessment and integration of innovative solutions, including ICT and digital innovation, into UNICEF programming, (2) Strengthen internal capacity to lead and support T4D related initiatives, (3) Identify and engage with key partners, building close business relationships, (4) Apply reusable and replicable technical buildings blocks, maximising the potential for the scale-up and sustainability of technology and digital innovation for UNICEF programming.
