Women in the New Nigeria (WINN) is a national indigenous non-governmental organization that focuses on the empowerment of women’s, girls and Persons with Disabilities. WINN has been in partnership with CBM International, and has implemented several CBM funded project in Borno State, Nigeria. CBM has secured funding from German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO) which will be implemented by its partners WINN in Borno State.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Technical Officer – Protection

Location: Maiduguri, Borno (with frequent visits to field locations)
Employment Type: Full-time
Duration: 3 years
Proposed Start Date: September 2022

Project Background

  • The program aims to improve living conditions and access to inclusive humanitarian assistance for populations affected by displacement due to complex humanitarian crises (IDPs, refugees, returnees) and members of host communities.
  • With special attention to the needs and rights of persons with disabilities, measures in the two sectors of health and protection are intended to be implemented in Borno State.

General Position Summary

  • The Technical Officer- Protection is responsible for assisting in the implementation of Protection sector activities including mobilization of beneficiaries, training on topics such as psychological first aid, and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), and the validation of referral pathways.
  • S/he will also advise and build capacity of other sector teams on gender and protection mainstreaming and best practices.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the implementation of protection activities and ensure adequate gender mainstreaming across program in field locations.
  • Develop activity work plans and manage day-to-day activity implementation related to gender and protection.
  • Ensure the mainstreaming of gender and protection across programs in coordination with other sectors and working groups, in-line with best practices.
  • Ensure that beneficiaries are effectively targeted according to vulnerability criteria.
  • Lead case workers and community-based volunteers to identify gender related priorities and protection concerns.
  • The Officer play an active role in technical coordination, support during advocacy with the protection sector and other stakeholders and technical agencies relevant to the sector.
  • Establish and maintain effective program reporting, and monitoring and evaluation systems (to track, analyze and report on results) for both internal and external use.
  • Participates actively in cluster meetings and coordination meetings
  • Integrate community approaches, protection mainstreaming, gender sensitivity and capacity building into all activities as appropriate.
  • Work closely with case workers, volunteers and health personnel across all communities of intervention.
  • Adhere to all WINN policies related to security, operations and transport/ logistics information related to programming.
  • Support orientation for all new staff on WINN guidelines on gender and protection mainstreaming. If necessary, organize capacity building sessions for other sector staff on gender and protection.
  • Provide weekly field reports, capturing activities progress, lessons learned, success stories on the project as well as general situation and community updates and needs.
  • Report on any problems encountered in the field such as project participant complaints, local authority interference, and security threats to WINN staff and activities.
  • Coordinate with the Project Coordinator on any threats to WINN staff and activities.
  • Conduct his/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to WINN and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned to him/her.

Job Requirements

  • B.Sc Degree in Psychology or Clinical Psychologist with 3 years’ experience.
  • Significant experience in similar positions.
  • Ability to manage a team.
  • Reactivity, anticipation, adaptability, capacity to take initiatives
  • Organizational skills
  • Good writing and communication skills
  • Ability to manage priorities
  • Team spirit.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • S/he will supervise Psychiatric Nurses.

Accountability:

  • Reports Directly to: Project Coordinator
  • Works Directly with: Finance, Program, MEL, and Operation Teams, partner staff.
