Job Title: Mechanical Engineer
Activities
- Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on mechanical equipment such as HVAC systems, compressors, boilers, pumps, conveyors, and production machinery.
- Diagnose mechanical issues and develop cost-effective solutions to minimize downtime and enhance the performance of equipment.
- Assist in the installation, testing, and commissioning of new machines, equipment, and systems to ensure smooth integration into production lines.
- Collaborate with equipment vendors and contractors to ensure all installations meet factory specifications and GMP standards.
- Identify and troubleshoot mechanical failures, ensuring timely repairs to reduce equipment downtime and prevent production delays.
- Implement and monitor root cause analysis techniques to avoid reoccurrence of mechanical issues.
- Maintain detailed records of equipment performance, repairs, maintenance schedules, and downtime logs in line with company policies.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, health, and environmental regulations (e.g., GMP, ISO standards).
- Prepare and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for maintenance activities.
- Develop strategies to optimize the performance and efficiency of mechanical systems, reducing energy consumption and operational costs.
- Monitor and assess the efficiency of systems such as HVAC, steam, and compressed air to ensure they operate at peak efficiency.
- Work closely with production, quality assurance, and safety departments to support the manufacturing process and address any mechanical-related concerns.
- Provide technical support during audits and regulatory inspections.
- Participate in engineering projects, including equipment upgrades, factory expansions, and process improvements.
- Manage timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure the successful execution of mechanical engineering projects.
- Ensure all mechanical systems and equipment are safe to use and that safety protocols are strictly adhered to.
- Conduct regular risk assessments of mechanical processes and take proactive steps to mitigate any potential hazards.
- Provide guidance and training to technical staff and operators on the proper operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
- Stay updated on the latest mechanical engineering trends and technology relevant to pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing is required.
- Experience working in a GMP-regulated facility is essential.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including pumps, compressors, conveyors, HVAC, boilers, and manufacturing machinery.
- Proficiency in using mechanical design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar.
- Good knowledge of maintenance management systems (CMMS) and familiarity with preventive maintenance strategies.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Relevant certifications in mechanical engineering, safety, or maintenance (e.g., COREN registration) would be an added advantage.
- The position may require working in high-temperature environments, near heavy machinery, and within cleanrooms adhering to strict cleanliness and hygiene standards.
- Shift work may be required depending on the operational needs of the factory.
