Job Title: WASH Coordinator

Activities

  • Lead WASH technical assessments, coordinating with Save the Children thematic areas and/or external agencies, ensuring assessment findings include specific analysis of children’s needs.
  • Oversee timely, efficient, and effective grant delivery; monitor work plan variances and unmet targets, applying corrective measures and facilitating participatory problem resolution.
  • Contribute to concept notes, proposals, WASH strategies, detailed implementation plans, and master budgets.
  • Identify priorities, assist with assessments, and oversee KAP and other surveys.
  • Identify gaps in WASH facilities and standards, providing technical checks on WASH engineering and hygiene promotion aspects to promote high-quality approaches.
  • Design and manage water supply, sanitation, and hygiene interventions as per national, SPHERE, CHS, and Red Cross standards.
  • Ensure timely delivery of WASH program activities and prepare program and donor reports.
  • Develop management tools for WASH programs in communities, schools, CFS, and health facilities.
  • Programme Support:
  • Identify staffing needs for WASH officers and facilitate timely recruitment and induction.
  • Collaborate with Logistics and Finance teams to establish a phased procurement plan, budget, and supply chain for WASH supplies.
  • Coordinate with partners, authorities, and other sectors to ensure integrated program implementation.
  • Participate in WASH Sector Coordination and WG meetings, representing Save the Children’s WASH initiatives.
  • Work with MEAL teams to establish a sector MEAL plan, IPTT, and Complaint Feedback Mechanism (CFMs), linking to reporting requirements, and build technical staff capacity.
  • Identify WASH team learning needs and develop a capacity-building plan.
  • Implement team growth initiatives such as on-the-job training, creating a learning and sharing environment.
  • Collaborate with community mobilization and other sectors for the capacity building of community-based organizations and volunteers.
  • Oversee the development of technical training materials to improve WASH work within Save the Children.
  • Representation, Advocacy, and Organizational Learning:
  • Document lessons learned from WASH programs for dissemination.
  • Support advocacy activities targeting decision-makers at all levels.
  • Identify opportunities and materials for WASH communications and media work.
  • Represent SCI at state-level WASH coordination and sector WG meetings.
  • Facilitate field visits by donors and Save the Children representatives.
  • Adhere to Save the Children policies regarding Child Protection, CSG, Code of Conduct, Anti-Harassment (PSEA), health and safety, equal opportunities, and other relevant procedures.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned to support position objectives.

Candidate Profile

  • Progressive experience managing/coordinating emergency and long-term WASH programs.
  • Education in Sanitary Engineering, Public Health, Civil Engineering, or a related subject.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience, with at least 2 in humanitarian contexts.
  • Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation, with strong project report writing skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, fluency in English, and cultural and political sensitivity.
  • Flexible and adaptable in challenging working conditions.
  • Knowledge of Save the Children systems and processes.
  • Experience with BHA, GAC, ECHO, or EU-funded projects.
  • Self-accountable for decisions, resource management, and role modeling SCI values.
  • Holds team and partners accountable for their responsibilities, supports development, and applies appropriate consequences.
