Job Title: Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)
Job Description
- The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is a senior executive responsible for overseeing the nursing operations and leading the nursing staff within the facility.
- The CNO plays a key role in shaping and executing nursing strategy, improving patient care outcomes, managing resources effectively, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations.
- This role ensures that the nursing team delivers high-quality, compassionate care while maintaining high standards of professionalism and ethical conduct.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the nursing department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and adherence to nursing standards and protocols.
- Develop and implement nursing policies, procedures, and quality improvement programs in collaboration with other healthcare leaders.
- Supervise and mentor nursing staff, providing training, guidance, and support to ensure professional growth and alignment with hospital goals.
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure a seamless patient care experience and efficient use of resources.
- Monitor patient care delivery, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing corrective actions to enhance care quality and patient satisfaction.
- Develop nursing protocols and ensure consistent implementation across departments.
- Implement nurse residency and mentorship programs for professional development.
- Collaborate with nursing educators to design continuing education programs.
- Lead nursing research initiatives to improve patient care standards.
- Oversee the management of nursing shifts, ensuring adequate staffing at all times.
- Participate in hospital management meetings to represent nursing interests.
- Represent the nursing department in management meetings, providing insights and recommendations on nursing operations and patient care.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), or a related advanced nursing degree.
- A doctoral degree in nursing (e.g., Ph.D. or DNP) is highly preferred.
Certifications and Licenses:
- Active/current Registered Nurse (RN) license from nursing and midwifery council of Nigeria (NMCN).
- Certification in Nursing Administration or Nurse Executive (e.g., Nurse Executive-Board Certified (NE-BC)) is required or must be obtained within a set timeframe.CPR/BLS Certification.
- Additional certifications related to healthcare leadership or nursing (e.g., Certified in Executive Nursing Practice (CENP), Nurse Practitioner (NP) license).
Experience:
- At least 10 years of progressive experience in nursing, with at least 5 years in a leadership or executive role.
- Proven track record in managing large nursing teams and leading complex projects.
- Strong experience in budget management, strategic planning, and operational oversight.
- In-depth understanding of healthcare laws, patient safety standards, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with clinical research or evidence-based practice

Salary
N400,000 – N500,000 / Month.
