Job Title: Head of Credit

Description

  • As the Head of Credit, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the credit strategy and policies of the Microfinance Bank. This leadership position involves managing the credit portfolio, ensuring prudent risk assessment, and driving the growth of sustainable loan products that meet customer needs. The ideal candidate will have a strong analytical mindset, exceptional leadership skills, and a deep understanding of microfinance credit operations.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement the bank’s credit strategy in alignment with overall business objectives.
  • Establish and oversee the bank’s credit risk management framework, ensuring robust risk assessment and mitigation practices.

Credit Operations Management:

  • Supervise the end-to-end credit process, including loan origination, evaluation, approval, disbursement, and monitoring.
  • Ensure all loans comply with regulatory standards and internal policies.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of credit policies and update them in response to market trends or regulatory changes.

Portfolio Quality Assurance:

  • Monitor and analyze the quality of the credit portfolio to identify and address potential risks.
  • Design and implement strategies to minimize non-performing loans (NPLs) and maximize portfolio performance.
  • Collaborate with the recovery team to develop and execute efficient debt recovery plans.

Team Management and Development:

  • Lead, mentor, and train the credit team to improve their analytical capabilities and productivity.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and customer-centricity within the credit team.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Work closely with the business development team to tailor credit products that meet the needs of the target market.
  • Prepare and present detailed credit reports to the Board, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders as required.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related field. A master’s degree or professional certifications is a significant advantage.
  • Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive experience in credit management, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of credit analysis, portfolio management, and risk assessment in the microfinance or financial services sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large and diverse credit portfolios successfully.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients and team members.

Key Competencies:

  • Proficiency in credit risk analysis tools and software.
  • Solid understanding of Nigerian financial regulations, including those specific to microfinance institutions.
  • High attention to detail and excellent problem-solving abilities.
