Job Title: STEM Instructor – (Grades 1-12)

Job Description

  • The STEM Instructor specializing in Coding and Robotics will teach students in grades 1 through 12 how to design, build, and program robots, as well as develop foundational coding skills.
  • The role combines hands-on robotics instruction with coding concepts to foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills in students.
  • This instructor will provide a dynamic, engaging, and inclusive learning environment that encourages students to explore STEM fields, work with technology, and prepare for future careers in robotics, engineering, and computer science.

Key Responsibilities
Coding and Robotics Instruction:

  • Design and teach lessons that introduce and develop coding concepts (e.g., programming languages like Scratch, Python, JavaScript, or block-based coding) for students in grades 1-12.
  • Guide students in using various robotics platforms and kits (e.g., LEGO Mindstorms, VEX Robotics, Arduino, Raspberry Pi) to build and program robots.
  • Encourage hands-on, project-based learning where students create functional robots, code interactive programs, and solve real-world engineering challenges.
  • Provide opportunities for students to participate in robotics competitions (e.g., FIRST LEGO League, VEX Robotics competitions) and other coding-related events.

Curriculum Development & Lesson Planning:

  • Develop lesson plans that aligns with both national and state STEM education standards, with a focus on coding and robotics.
  • Create lesson plans that gradually increase in complexity to cater to students’ developmental stages, from simple coding tasks in elementary school to advanced robotics and algorithm development in high school.
  • Design and implement differentiated learning strategies to meet the needs of students at different skill levels and learning styles.

Project-Based Learning & Problem Solving:

  • Facilitate collaborative, hands-on projects where students work in teams to build and program robots to solve specific challenges (e.g., robot races, obstacle courses).
  • Promote creative problem-solving by encouraging students to troubleshoot, iterate, and improve their designs and code.
  • Use real-world scenarios to contextualize coding and robotics concepts, such as automation, artificial intelligence, and engineering design processes.

Student Assessment & Feedback:

  • Assess student progress through coding exercises, robot-building projects, quizzes, and project presentations.
  • Provide personalized feedback to help students improve their coding and robotics skills.
  • Track individual and group progress, adjusting instruction to ensure all students are challenged and supported.

Classroom Management & Environment:

  • Create a positive, inclusive, and collaborative classroom environment where students feel confident in experimenting and learning from mistakes.
  • Implement classroom management strategies to keep students engaged, focused, and respectful of the tools and equipment.
  • Ensure a safe and organized learning environment, particularly in managing robotics kits, electronics, and computers.

Extracurricular Engagement:

  • Lead or support after-school coding clubs, robotics teams, or hackathons to provide students with additional opportunities to practice and showcase their skills.
  • Organize and mentor students for local, regional, or national robotics competitions and coding challenges.

Professional Development & Collaboration:

  • Stay current with trends and best practices in coding, robotics, and STEM education through workshops, conferences, and online resources.
  • Collaborate with fellow STEM instructors to integrate robotics and coding concepts into other subject areas (e.g., math, science).
  • Share innovative teaching strategies and resources with colleagues to improve the school’s overall STEM curriculum.

Qualifications
Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Robotics, Education, or a related field required. A Master’s degree or specialized certifications in coding, robotics, or STEM education is a plus.

Certifications:

  • Teaching certification for grades 1-12, or equivalent depending on the region (e.g., state certification) is required.

Experience:

  • Prior teaching experience in coding, robotics, or STEM subjects in a K-12 setting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with various robotics platforms (LEGO, VEX, Arduino, etc.) and coding languages (Scratch, Python, Java, etc.) is essential.
  • Experience in organizing and mentoring students for coding competitions or robotics tournaments is beneficial.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of coding principles, robotics design, and programming languages.
  • Ability to explain complex coding and robotics concepts to students of all ages and skill levels.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to integrate technology into lesson plans and student activities.
  • Passion for inspiring students to explore STEM fields and develop coding and robotics skills.

Salary
N150,000 – N200,000 monthly.
