Job Title: HVAC Quality Assurance / Quality Control Engineer
Job Purpose
- To ensure all HVAC installation, testing, and commissioning activities comply with project specifications, international codes, and quality standards through systematic inspection and documentation processes.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Planning & Documentation:
- Develop and implement Project Quality Plan (PQP)andInspection & Test Plans (ITP)for HVAC systems
- Review and approve:
- Method Statements
- Material Submittals
- Shop Drawings (SMACNA, ASHRAE compliance)
- Maintain Quality Control Checklistsfor:
- Ductwork installation (leakage testing per DW/144)
- Piping systems (pressure testing per ASME B31.9)
- Equipment installation (chillers, AHUs, VRF)
Inspection & Testing:
- Conduct three-phase inspections:
- Pre-installation: Material verification (MTRs, certifications)
- During installation: Weld inspections, duct sealing, pipe supports
- Post-installation: Performance testing (TAB, refrigerant charge
- Oversee critical tests:
- Duct leakage testing (per SMACNA)
- Hydronic system flushing (per ASHRAE Standard 202)
- Refrigerant leak detection (EPA Section 608 compliance)
Non-Conformance Management:
- Issue NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports)with:
- Photographic evidence
- Disposition recommendations (repair/replace)
- Track corrective actions through CAR (Corrective Action Request) system
Coordination & Reporting:
- Interface with:
- Client QA representatives
- Third-party inspection agencies (TUV, Lloyds, etc.)
- Subcontractor QC teams
- Prepare:
- Daily inspection reports
- Weekly quality metrics (PPM, rework rates)
- Final QA/QC dossier for handover
Required Qualifications
- Education: B.Tech/B.E in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Experience Required: 8-15 years in HVAC QA/QC for large-scale projects
- Certifications: ASQ CQE, ISO 9001 Lead Auditor, or equivalent preferred
Essential:
- HVAC QA/QC in power/industrial projects
- Working knowledge of MEP coordination
- Proficient in generating ITPs & checklists
Preferred:
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
- NEBB/TABB certification
- Lead Auditor certification
Technical Competencies:
Standards & Codes:
- ASHRAE 15, 90.1, 62.1
- SMACNA HVAC Duct Construction Standards
- ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management
- AWS D1.1 (for HVAC-related welding)
Testing & Measurement:
- Airflow hood measurements (NEBB protocols)
- Hydronic system balancing (proportional method)
- Infrared thermography for electrical inspections
- Vibration analysis for rotating equipment
Software Proficiency:
- BIM 360/Revizto (for clash detection)
- ETABS/STAAD (for structural integration reviews)
- Bluebeam Revu (for drawing markups)
Work Conditions:
- Site-Based:100% field assignment with rotational leave
- Work Schedule:10 hours/day, 6 days/week (typical)
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to climb scaffolds/ladders
- Carry testing equipment (up to 25kg)
- Work in confined spaces.
