Job Title: Building Engineer
Job Overview
- The Building Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all building systems are operating efficiently and safely.
- This role involves overseeing maintenance, troubleshooting systems, and coordinating with contractors and facility management to ensure that the infrastructure meets operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance and Repairs:
- Conduct regular inspections of building systems (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, etc.) to identify issues.
- Perform or supervise routine preventative maintenance and urgent repairs as needed.
Systems Operation:
- Monitor and control building automation systems to optimize performance and energy efficiency.
- Ensure all systems are in compliance with safety codes and standards.
Project Coordination:
- Liaise with contractors, vendors, and service providers to schedule maintenance work and repair projects.
- Assist in planning and implementing facility improvement projects.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
- Prepare detailed reports on system performance, maintenance schedules, and energy consumption.
Emergency Response:
- Develop and execute contingency plans for emergency situations, such as system failures or environmental hazards.
- Serve as a key point of contact for building emergencies, coordinating rapid resolution.
Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure that all work complies with local, state, and federal regulations, including safety and environmental guidelines.
- Conduct regular safety audits and implement corrective measures where necessary.
Budget and Resource Management:
- Assist in the management of budgets related to facility operations, maintenance, and improvement projects.
- Oversee and optimize the use of tools, equipment, and materials necessary for maintenance and repairs.
Qualifications and Skills
Education and Experience:
- A Degree or Diploma in Facilities Management, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Proven experience in building maintenance, systems troubleshooting, or facilities management is preferred.
Technical Skills:
- Proficient in the operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems.
- Familiarity with building automation systems and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
Problem-Solving Skills:
- Strong troubleshooting abilities with a hands-on approach to resolving technical issues.
- Capable of managing multiple tasks and prioritizing work effectively during emergencies.
Communication Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with staff, vendors, and contractors.
- Ability to provide clear guidance and instructions during routine maintenance or emergency situations.
Certifications (preferred):
- Relevant certifications in HVAC, electrical, or facility management (e.g., Certified Facility Manager, EPA certifications) can be advantageous.
