Job Title: Income Generating Activities (IGA) Officer

Job Summary

  • The Income Generating Activities (IGA) Officer will be responsible for the planning, implementation, and coordination of vocational skills training, Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA), and other income-generating activities.
  • The role includes beneficiary training on entrepreneurship, market-based approaches, and business development.
  • The officer will support the formation of VSLAs, conduct appraisals of IGAs, and ensure that activities are carried out effectively, transparently, and in accordance with donor and organizational standards.

Key Responsibilities
Program Implementation & Capacity Building:

  • Facilitate community mobilization, meetings, and training sessions for community-led IGA activities.
  • Provide guidance for the formation and strengthening of VSLAs and business groups.
  • Oversee the day-to-day implementation of VSLA and IGA-related activities.
  • Deliver hands-on livelihoods and vocational training and build the capacity of beneficiaries to engage in sustainable IGAs.
  • Monitor the implementation of income-generation plans and provide timely support as needed.
  • Ensure procurement and timely delivery of quality VSLA kits/tools and monitor their use.

Data Collection, Assessment & M&E Support:

  • Conduct assessments, surveys, post-distribution monitoring, and field supervision visits.
  • Participate in thematic needs assessments and data collection for livelihoods research.
  • Support the Monitoring & Evaluation team in compiling and analyzing beneficiary data.
  • Prepare regular reports, including updates from field visits and progress on project indicators.

Community Engagement:

  • Work closely with community leaders and structures to promote accountability, transparency, and inclusion.
  • Raise awareness among beneficiaries about existing and new livelihood opportunities.
  • Ensure that the most vulnerable individuals are identified and prioritized in program implementation.
  • Act as a liaison between the organization and the community, ensuring two-way communication and feedback.

Coordination & Representation:

  • Collaborate closely with the FSL Manager and other teams across LGAs for program synergy.
  • Maintain strong coordination with internal logistics and procurement teams to ensure timely acquisition of resources.
  • Represent DHCBI at external meetings with stakeholders, partners, and local authorities, in coordination with the FSL Manager.
  • Participate in regular coordination forums at community, LGA, and state levels.

Reporting:

  • Prepare timely IGA/Livelihoods updates and detailed field visit reports.
  • Contribute to weekly/monthly program reporting and learning documentation.
  • Collaborate with M&E Officers to capture program outcomes and lessons learned.

Other Responsibilities:
Safeguarding & Ethics:

  • Promote Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) standards within DHCBI and among beneficiaries.
  • Uphold DHCBI’s ethics, integrity, and compliance standards, as well as those of donors (e.g., WFP).

Gender & Inclusion:

  • Ensure equal access to information and program resources for all genders.
  • Promote an inclusive work and program environment that respects diversity and protects the dignity of all individuals.

Requirements
Education:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Development Studies, Economics, Business Administration, Natural Resource Management, Disaster Risk Management, or a related field.
  • A Master’s Degree is an added advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in humanitarian or development contexts, including at least 1 year in conflict/insecure settings.
  • Proven experience in implementing livelihood or income-generating activities, including VSLAs and vocational training.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong communication and report-writing skills.
  • Experience in participatory community methods.
  • Familiarity with do-no-harm, protection principles, and conflict sensitivity.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups, including women and youth.
  • Knowledge of humanitarian principles, protection concerns (including GBV), and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • Fluency in English, Hausa, and at least one local language (e.g., Kanuri) is required.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities.

Additional Information:

  • This position requires full-time presence in field locations (Konduga/Mafa LGAs).
  • Willingness to work in difficult conditions and travel frequently to project sites is essential.
