Job Title: Instrumentation & Control Officer
Purpose of the Job
- Responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of instrumentation and control systems to ensure optimal operations.
- Supports spare parts management, safety compliance, and effective collaboration with operations and procurement teams
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The Instrumentation & Control Officer shall therefore be responsible, but not limited, for the following:
- Perform troubleshooting, testing, repair, and maintenance of instrumentation and control systems.
- Calibrate instruments and control devices, including PLCs, Relays, pressure switches, level switches, temperature switches, and transmitters.
- Assist in ensuring all I & C systems are operational and properly integrated into the grid system processes.
- Conduct periodic inspections of I & C systems to identify hazards, defects, or the need for repair.
- Provide feedback to ensure accurate scaling and measurement for controllers.
- Follow the I & C maintenance checklist provided by the Maintenance Planning unit and ensure all tasks are completed.
- Support the analysis and resolution of issues flagged by the performance and efficiency team.
- Monitor and manage the utilisation of I & C spare parts and equipment to avoid wastage or damage.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations during maintenance activities.
- Maintain accurate records of instrumentation and control activities, calibration reports, and spare parts usage.
- Preparation of weekly and monthly reports on the performance of I & C systems.
- Work closely with the operations and metering team to address maintenance-related issues.
- Collaborate with the procurement team to specify the requirements for spare parts and ensure timely acquisition.
- Prepare periodic reports for the attention of the Instrumentation & Control Supervisor.
- Perform any other tasks as assigned by the Instrumentation & Control Supervisor.
Minimum Educational & Professional Qualifications, Experience and Knowledge
- Minimum of a First Degree in Electrical Engineering or any related course.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in maintaining, calibrating, and troubleshooting instrumentation and control systems in power plants or industrial settings.
- Full Membership of a Relevant Professional Body.
Attributes and Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of field instruments like pressure, temperature, flow, and level transmitters.
- Proficiency in working with control valves, actuators, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
- Ability to read and interpret P&ID diagrams, loop drawings, and schematics.
- Troubleshooting Skills.
- Familiarity with standards related to instrumentation and control.
- Knowledge of communication protocols.
