Job Title: Instrument Technician
About the Role
- We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Instrument Technician to join our mining operations in Kaduna.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting various instrumentation systems critical to the safe and efficient operation of mining equipment and processing facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine calibration, testing, and maintenance of field instrumentation including pressure, flow, temperature, and level transmitters.
- Troubleshoot and repair instrument-related issues on fixed plant and mobile mining equipment.
- Install new instrumentation and control systems as per engineering drawings and specifications.
- Maintain documentation for instrument calibration, loop checks, and preventive maintenance schedules.
- Support DCS, PLC, and SCADA systems by ensuring effective communication between field instruments and control systems.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with safety standards, company policies, and mining regulations.
- Assist in system upgrades, loop tuning, and integration of new instruments.
- Collaborate with electrical and mechanical teams to ensure seamless equipment operation.
- Maintain stock and request inventory for critical spares and consumables.
- Participate in shutdowns, commissioning, and plant improvement projects.
Qualifications & Requirements
- OND / HND or Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field.
- 3 – 5 years of hands-on experience as an Instrument Technician in a mining or heavy industrial environment.
- Solid knowledge of field instruments, control systems, and signal transmission principles.
- Experience with calibration tools and diagnostics software.
- Proficiency with DCS/PLC systems (e.g., Siemens, Allen Bradley, Schneider).
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Excellent safety practices and awareness.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment under pressure.
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of mining-specific equipment and control systems.
- Understanding of vibration analysis, thermography, and advanced diagnostics tools.
- Familiarity with ISO and HSE standards applicable to mining operations.
