Job Title: Gender Project Manager, Nigeria
What we are looking for
- NRC Nigeria is hiring a Gender Project Manager to lead gender integration in a GIZ-funded project and serve as the Country Office focal point for Safe and Inclusive Programming.
- You’ll guide local partners, champion gender-transformative approaches, and help remove barriers limiting women’s and youth participation in the green economy.
- The project, based in Borno State, focuses on job creation in green agriculture, renewable energy, waste management, and eco-technologies – while strengthening collaboration with local leaders and women-led organizations to promote women’s rights and leadership.
Responsibilities
- Support the project in implementing all gender activities as per proposal documents and ensuring quality
- Support partner with development and conducting of gender specific assessments as demanded by the project
- Support the partner in developing and/or strengthening existing tools, SoPs, training materials, and key guidance documents
- Lead gender assessments, do no harm, and strengthen effective and more gender-sensitive referral systems in close collaboration with other protection actors at area level
- Provide capacity strengthening of the partner through training and coaching on gender transformation
- Support partner’s outreach activities and ensure that women and youths men in all their diversity participate in the decisions that affect them
- Support partner on grants management tasks as required (proposal amendments, reporting, meeting with donors, etc.)
- Work with Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) to support development of assessment and project monitoring tools and reporting gender specific achievements
- Lead the implementation of NRC’s Safe and Inclusive Programming action plan within the Country Office and Area Offices.
- Coordinate with program teams and partners to ensure all activities prioritize safety and inclusivity of vulnerable groups, including women, children, persons with disabilities, and marginalized populations.
- Support the integration of protection mainstreaming into program design, monitoring, and evaluation processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, gender studies, humanitarian, or relevant discipline.
- Minimum of three years of experience in gender equity, women’s empowerment, gender program management, policy development and transformative approaches.
- Extensive experience in training, coaching and knowledge transfer on gender issues
- Ability to present data and convey information clearly and concisely and identifying trends
- Fluency in both English and any of the main local languages spoken in Northeast
- Computer skills, including MS Office (Word, Excel)
- Proven experience in designing and implementing gender-responsive and gender-transformative programming, preferably within livelihoods interventions and policy advocacy
- Strong understanding of gender theory, principles and analysis frameworks
- Demonstrated experience conducting gender assessments, analysis evaluation and integrating findings into program design.
- Excellent analytical and communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively, with strong project management and organizational skills.
- Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders, including government entities, religious leaders, and private sector actors
- In-depth understanding of gender equality principles and issues within the Nigerian context particularly in conflict-affected areas of Northern Nigeria
- Proven ability to deliver effective capacity building and training sessions for local organisations and staff
- High level of cultural sensitivity and awareness when engaging with diverse communities and stakeholders.
Benefits
- Duty station: Maidiguri, Nigeria.
- Contract: 12 months.
- Travel: 50% within Borno and Adamawa States.
