Methods

• Cohort households and campaign nets have been identified for longitudinal net durability monitoring. In total, 288 households have been selected in 24 wards in various Local Government Areas (LGAs) across the state.
• The durability monitoring includes interviews to collect various data in cohort households using mobile devices, and physical inspection of the labelled cohort nets and collecting various data on these and other nets owned by the households.
• Twelve households were selected in each ward during the post-campaign survey in November 2022 out of those that have received nets to establish a cohort of nets for longitudinal durability monitoring (i.e., 288 in total from 24 wards). These households have been visited at months 12 and 24 after the campaign.
• The cohort households will be visited again at month 36 for interviews and collection of a sample of remaining cohort nets.
• Cohort campaign nets will be retrieved for insecticidal effectiveness studies (bioassays and chemical analysis). New replacement nets will be given to the households for each collected cohort net. The following procedure will be used to sample the cohort nets for collection during the interviews.
• The cohort households will be identified within the digital questionnaire before the survey.
• From a master list of cohort nets that were still being used at month 24, 60 cohort nets will be retrieved during the month 36 survey from every household until the 60 cohort nets are successfully retrieved. During household interviews, if a cohort household has been selected for net retrieval, nets that have been in use are collected (after labelling the “door” side) and new replacement nets issued.

Specific Tasks
Team Leader:

• Will be responsible for a team of 3 data collectors (who will conduct household interviews in cohort households, retrieve samples of campaign nets from selected cohort households, and give out replacement nets).
• Will be required to attend training prior to survey.
• Assigns each interviewer to administer interviews in four households per day.
• Assigns a data collector to select 2 or 3 cohort households in each ward to retrieve nets for further analysis, label the door entry side of each net that is selected to be retrieved BEFORE the net is taken down (if hanging), and retrieve the nets, and give out replacement nets.
• Makes sure that the required number of replacement nets are transported to each ward daily, labelled and given out to households from which sampled nets are retrieved.
• Makes sure that retrieved nets are properly labelled and handed over to Malaria Consortium staff at the end of each day.
• Makes sure that work in all sampled households (in a ward) is completed every day and the team completes the work in a total of 3 wards).
• Supervises the interview process and resolves any issues, working with the household mobiliser.
• Ensures that the data is collected accurately and uploaded according to the relevant SOPs or guidelines.
• Ensures accurate review, validation and submission of electronic data.
• Supports team members to charge mobile phones using a power bank (each team leader will keep a power bank, which should be kept charged daily and as necessary).
• Collects mobile devices from data collectors at the end of each day for charging and safe keeping.
• Responsible for ensuring that activities of data collectors are carried out while observing COVID-19 prevention measures and keeping respondents’ data confidential.
• Writes a short report on the team’s achievements, encountered challenges and recommendations.

Qualifications and Experience
Team Leader:

• A minimum of BSc degree in health-related discipline and social sciences.
• 3-5 years’ experience in coordinating or conducting household surveys.
• Experience in electronic data collection tools such as SurveyCTO or ODK.
• Demonstrated report writing skills in English.
• Excellent knowledge of the Igbo language.

Mobilizers:

• Assigned in consultation with community leaders
• Must be familiar with the community.
