The Opportunity

Save the Children International has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as the– Clinical Lead position in London or at any existing Save the Children International office location.

ROLE PURPOSE:

This role will manage the clinical activities of one primary health team – cholera unit, mobile clinic or vaccination unit, providing technical and clinical leadership for the team and direct clinical care.

  • To contribute to country emergency preparedness plans and programmes as directed EHU Head of Operations
  • To provide clinical input to emergency preparedness and to support the training of the medical team.
  • Maintains oversight of SCI clinical assurance tools, and other relevant for application in all EHU responses
  • During a response, to supervise the clinical team, ensuring clinical protocols are available, relevant and adhered to and that they meet international and national requirements.
  • Develops and delivers training programmes for relevant clinical staff as required
  • Facilitating a good working relationship with both the MoH and country programme teams
  • Lead the recruitment of national medical staff
  • Represents EHU clinical team internal and external forums
  • Working closely with health and nutrition technical advisors to ensure technical inputs into programme design for safe and quality care
  • Ensures inputs into project documents including proposals and budgets in a timely manner
  • Inputs and provides timely medical reports
  • To liaise at project level with country team, greater SC humanitarian response
  • To contribute to effective integration and exit strategies.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Medical Doctor or Nurse with Global Public Health experience in an humanitarian setting.
  • Desirable: Msc Public Health or equivalent
  • Desirable: Proficiency in a 2nd language such as French, Spanish or Arabic

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential Technical Skills:

  • Strong experience of Health management in public health humanitarian settings including previous first phase emergency response experience.
  • Experience in primary health care, Acute Water Diarrheal management and immunization.
  • Experience in working in Cholera Treatment Centres/Units.
  • Management experience supervising medical teams
  • Experience of and commitment to working through systems of community participation and accountability
  • Demonstrated monitoring and evaluation skills
  • Ability to write clear and well-argued assessment and project reports
  • Experience of representation and ability to represent Save the Children effectively in external forums.
  • Proven capacity to supervise, train and coach staff.

Desirable:

  • Strong knowledge of Save the Children systems and ways of working.
  • Experience in paediatrics.
  • Experience in obstetrics.
  • Experience working in a COVID19 environment

Personal Skills:

  • Ability to work both in an advisory and a hands-on implementation capacity
  • Experience of preparing successful funding proposals for donors
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
  • A high level of written and spoken English
  • The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances.
  • Commitment to the aims and principles of Save the Children. In particular, a good understanding of the Save the Children’s mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support

We can offer circa $65,000 per annum with an option of flexible working hours.

This role can be based in London or any existing Save the Children International Regional or Country office location on approval, provided the successful candidate has proof of eligibility to work from the preferred location.
