We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Senior Lawyer

Location: Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Full-time

Role

  • The Senior Lawyer will provide high quality, targeted and accessible legal adviceacross a range of practice areas and will work as a valued business partner withcolleagues across The law firm in order to secure and deliver effective solutions to legalissues.
  • The Senior Lawyer will need to be highly experienced and technicallyproficient in their areas of legal specialism and maybe the senior in-house technicalexpert for a specific practice discipline.
  • Candidate will be expected to work with a high degree of autonomy on complex legal matters.
  • The Senior Lawyer will generallylead and manage their own portfolio of matters but they will also work collegiatelywith other Senior Lawyers, the Associate Directors (Legal) or the Director of Legal onlarger legal projects, particularly those which require input from multiple legal specialisms. Senior Lawyers will also supervise the work of the Legal Advisors.
  • The Senior Lawyer will be expected to provide legal advice that is placed within thewider strategic context and as such will be expected to develop and maintain a broadknowledge of The law firm’s business areas, to develop strong working relationships withcolleagues at all levels across the business and to be able to be both influential andpersuasive in securing high levels of legal compliance whilst supporting the effectivedelivery of The law firm’s strategic objectives.
  • Proactively identify legal issues at the earliest opportunity and develop andimplement strategies to address them.

Duties

  • Use a range of persuasion and influencing skills to secure strategic outcomesthat are compliant with the law.
  • Use high-level legal competencies to develop and implement innovative solutionsto legal problems.
  • Maintain a high degree of technical competency in one or more of the legalspecialisms needed by The law firm.
  • Help to support and train The law firm staff to enable them to understand the legal context for The law firm’s work, raise awareness of legal issues, develop The law firm staff’slegal acumen and support and enable staff to make the best use of legal advice.
  • Commission and manage the provision of external legal advice, ensuring that externally commissioned lawyers are provided with all necessary information toenable them to provide advice that is accurate, targeted and which represents thebest value for money.
  • Communicate externally commissioned legal advice to The law firm colleagues in away which maximizes their ability to understand and apply it appropriately
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the practice and procedures of theLegal team.
  • Support the development and delivery of a coherent approach to meetingThe law firm’s legal resource requirements alongside the wider legal team
  • Leading by example as a role model for The law firm’s values and professionalstandards.
  • Driving the delivery of business and corporate plans for your own areas ofresponsibility.
  • Driving continuous improvement within your own areas of responsibility.
  • Taking a proactive approach to risk management, ensuring risks and issues areidentified, addressed and reported and, where appropriate, escalated.
  • Managing individuals or teams through line management and/or matrixmanagement arrangements as required, ensuring underperformance ismanaged and adequate resourcing is planned to meet objectives.
  • Managing delegated resources (e.g. budgets, equipment and contracts) asappropriate, to ensure value for money.
  • Being fully aware of and actively complying with The law firm’s policies and proceduresrelevant to your own responsibilities and to corporate policies and proceduresincluding equality, sustainability and the environment, health and safety and dataprotection.
  • Performing any other reasonable duties as directed by line management.

Requirements

  • Must possess LLB, LLM [Masters] Degree from a reputable University.
  • Must have a minimum of 12 years, Post – Bar Experience and 80% of this must be commercial law practice in the Private Sector.

Salary
N200,000 – N250,000 monthly.
