Job Title: Graphic Designer

Job Purpose

  • The Graphic Designer Officer is responsible for creating high-quality visual designs that effectively communicate the messages of the consortium’s programs and initiatives.
  • This role involves designing graphics for various media, including print and digital platforms, to enhance the visibility and impact of the consortium’s work.
  • The Graphic Designer Officer will work closely with the communications and program teams to ensure that all materials are visually engaging, on-brand, and culturally appropriate for the target audience.

Key Responsibilities
Design and Creation of Visual Materials:

  • Design creative and visually appealing materials for internal and external communication, including reports, newsletters, brochures, flyers, posters, infographics, and social media content.
  • Develop engaging visuals and graphics that communicate complex messages clearly and concisely for various audiences, including donors, stakeholders, and the general public.
  • Create templates and design standards for program reports, presentations, and promotional materials to ensure consistent branding across all communication materials.

Branding and Visual Identity:

  • Ensure all designs adhere to the organization’s brand guidelines, maintaining consistency in color schemes, typography, logos, and overall style across all materials.
  • Work with the communications team to refine and evolve the brand identity, ensuring that it resonates with the target audience while maintaining the organization’s professional image.

Social Media and Digital Content:

  • Design digital content for social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn) that engages the audience and promotes the consortium’s activities.
  • Develop visuals for websites, email campaigns, online reports, and other digital platforms.
  • Assist in the creation of video graphics and animations to complement multimedia content for digital channels.

Collaboration and Concept Development:

  • Collaborate with the communications, M&E, and program teams to understand their visual needs and provide design solutions that effectively communicate program goals, achievements, and data.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and concept development for campaigns and events, offering creative solutions that enhance the visual appeal and effectiveness of communication.

Feedback and Revisions:

  • Present design concepts to internal stakeholders, incorporating feedback and making revisions as needed to ensure that designs meet expectations and align with organizational objectives.
  • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, delivering high-quality work on time and within project deadlines.

Quality Control:

  • Ensure that all final designs meet high standards of quality and are suitable for both print and digital formats.
  • Ensure all assets are correctly formatted, sized, and optimized for use across various platforms and media.
  • Maintain an organized library of design assets, templates, and project files for easy access by the communications and program teams.

Innovation and Trends:

  • Stay up to date with design trends, new software tools, and best practices to bring fresh ideas and innovative approaches to the organization’s visual materials.
  • Experiment with new techniques and technologies (e.g., motion graphics, 3D design) to enhance the visual impact of the consortium’s content.

Requirements
Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, Communications, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in graphic design, ideally in the nonprofit, development, or humanitarian sectors.
  • Proven experience in creating a range of design materials for both print and digital media.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing design work, including digital content, print materials, and brand identity projects.

  • Strong proficiency in graphic design software, including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, etc.).
  • Ability to create visually engaging designs while maintaining clarity and simplicity.
  • Knowledge of design principles such as typography, color theory, layout, and composition.

Creativity and Innovation:

  • Strong creative thinking with the ability to conceptualize design ideas from scratch.
  • Ability to think outside the box and experiment with new techniques, styles, and tools to enhance design work.

Attention to Detail:

  • High level of attention to detail in all design work, ensuring accuracy and consistency across all materials.
  • Ability to maintain design consistency with brand guidelines and deliver quality outputs on time.

Time Management:

  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining a high standard of work.

Communication Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills to understand design requirements and provide regular updates to stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively present and explain design concepts to non-design stakeholders and incorporate feedback in a constructive way.

Collaboration and Teamwork:

  • Ability to work collaboratively with communications, program teams, and other stakeholders to produce high-quality visuals that support organizational goals.
  • Willingness to accept feedback and work with others to improve designs and meet project objectives.

Cultural Sensitivity:

  • Strong understanding of cultural diversity and sensitivity to the diverse audiences the designs will target.
  • Ability to create designs that are culturally appropriate and relevant to different demographic groups.

  • Ability to adapt to changing design needs and prioritize tasks according to program or campaign requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, particularly when faced with design challenges or tight deadlines.
