Job Title: Accounting and Administration Officer
About the USDA Food for Progress Program PRO-Cashew Project:
The USDA West Africa Cashew Project (PRO-Cashew) is an eight-year project ending in March 2027, implemented by CNFA in Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Benin, Ghana, and Nigeria. The project aims to improve the cashew sector in the five implementing countries by: Increasing the productivity and efficiency of farmers in the cashew value chain through improving crop quality, rehabilitating and renovating orchards, and strengthening the capacities of cooperatives and producer organizations, nursery systems and input suppliers; Boosting trade of cashew by improving harvest and post-harvest techniques, addressing gaps in data collection, analysis and dissemination, supporting supply chain linkages between farmers and agro-food companies, and encouraging harmonized market-driven regional policies. “PRO-Cashew” represents the project’s main objectives: promotion of West Africa’s cashew value chain, professionalization of the regional industry, and participation of all its main actors.
Position Summary:
CNFA is currently seeking applications from qualified candidates for an Accounting and Administration Officer position for the PRO-Cashew. Reporting to Nigeria Country Manager and to the Finance Manager in Abidjan Office, the Accountant and Administrative Officer will maintain the general ledger and ensure the accuracy of financial documents and safeguarding project inventory. He/she is responsible for maintaining accurate and complete records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and CNFA’s accounting and financial policies and procedures. The position also provides administrative support for program implementation to enable the smooth running of all activities in accordance with the approved Work Plan.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities: Conduct daily accounting activities in accordance with CNFA policies and procedures and in compliance with the laws of Nigeria
• Enter transactions into the accounting system based on the CNFA chart of accounts and budget codes.
• Maintain the general journal and manage petty cash; manage daily petty cash transactions including verification of vouchers; prepare replenishment documents.
• Calculate and pay mission expenses for staff and other project partners, and process mission staff expense reports.
• Check invoices from suppliers, consultants and subcontractors for compliance with CNFA rules, and prepare payments.
• Prepare and submit staff payroll statements.
• Prepare and submit tax and social security declarations to the relevant authorities on a monthly basis.
• Assist with bank accounts management opened in the country.
• Prepare and submit monthly bank reconciliations, prepare monthly reports for closing the books, and prepare monthly requests for funds.
• Ensure transparency and compliance with standards and procedures (donor and CNFA) concerning the project’s financial transactions.
• Provide assistance with internal or external audit requirements.
• Manage all personnel matters, including timesheets, leave reports and local benefits, and ensure their confidentiality, maintain personnel files and provide support for the procurement of goods and services.
• Maintain records of vehicle request forms, manage office vehicle usage, request and maintain fuel inventory, and maintain fixed asset records and determine conditions and depreciation rates to be applied to items.
• Provide logistical support, including arrangement of all hotels, flight and travel reservations, handle visa formalities and arrangements for seminars, workshops and other special events.
• Provide support for the administration and monitoring of grant agreements.
• Maintain all equipment contracts and insurance policies.
Job Requirements:
• Minimum bachelor’s degree in accounting or relevant field.
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting and operations, including at least 3 years in the international non-governmental organization (NGO) sector.
• Proficiency in Excel and other relevant accounting software.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to work in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Fluency of English required
• Professional experience on USAID or USDA funded projects.
• Strong attention to detail and a high degree of integrity, responsibility, energy and flexibility.
• Permission to work in Nigeria required.
