Job Title: Milk Collection Center Manager

Job Summary

  • The Milk Collection Center (MCC) Manager is responsible for overseeing the operations of all the milk collection centers established during the project life, and that they meet set targets and expectations. 
  • This includes ensuring milk quality and safety, managing the team, and ensuring consistent adherence of the milk collection centers to quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the senior program manager to develop a comprehensive work plan.
  • Monitor and optimize the operations of a minimum of 3 MCCs.
  • Supervise the MCC team and develop regular capacity-building sessions that ensure that the MCCs are consistently compliant with all quality and safety standards.
  • Monitor supply of milk to the processor, ensuring rejection rate is less than 0.2% of total volumes supplied monthly and MCCs meet daily/monthly supply targets agreed with the processor.
  • Oversee procurement of budgeted quantities of milk each month by each MCC and effectively manage lean and glut periods.
  • Identify real and potential risks, provide mitigations, and update the risk matrix.
  • Design reporting templates that would be used by the MCC team to record daily milk volumes procured; quality of every batch supplied by each dairy supplier, etc.
  • Develop the terms of reference for the setting up of local advisory committees (LAC) in the local government areas (LGA) where the MCCs are located, and monitor monthly meetings through reports shared by the MCC coordinator and physical attendance from time to time.
  • Monitor payments to dairy suppliers through proper documentation with KYC and resolving any issues by coordinating with the internal team and the local advisory committee.
  • Work with the processor’s relevant teams to develop a route schedule for daily collection of fresh milk to the processor’s facility.
  • Establish necessary controls and random audits to inspect and minimize any form of malpractice across MCCs.
  • Work with the herder productivity and dairy business teams, and the local advisory committees to identify new dairy producer communities and ranches around each MCC, and identify inbound and outbound migration movements of traditional herders in the project geography.
  • Analyze and report performance of the MCCs monthly on procurement, operational costs, sales, and services provided to the dairy community.
  • Increase productivity and capacity utilization across all MCCs.
  • Ensure that all equipment undergo scheduled maintenance, and where required, repairs and replacements are made quickly to avoid disruptions to the operations of the MCC.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture / Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics / Business Administration, or a related field with 7 years’ experience. Alternatively, a master’s degree with at least 5 years of experience.
  • This should include 5 years of extensive experience in the implementation of projects in agriculture, entrepreneur and agribusiness with years of demonstrated experience in the dairy sector.

Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of dairy farming practices, animal health, and milk production processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in sustainable sourcing of quality inputs by local and global processors
  • Demonstrated experience working in rural communities in Nigeria.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing public and private stakeholders.
