We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Psychosocial First Aid Volunteer

Locations: Bama, Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC), Konduga and Jere LGAs – Borno
Duration: 3 years

Project Background

  • WINN has been in partnership with CBM International, and has implemented several CBM funded project in Borno State, Nigeria. CBM has secured funding from German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO) which will be implemented by its partners WINN in Borno State.
  • The program aims to improve living conditions and access to inclusive humanitarian assistance for populations affected by displacement due to complex humanitarian crises (IDPs, refugees, returnees) and members of host communities. With special attention to the needs and rights of persons with disabilities, measures in the two sectors of health and protection are intended to be implemented in Borno State.

General Position Summary

  • During and after an emergency, volunteers provide Psychological First Aid to people affected by a disaster and conflict.
  • They help to reduce their initial distress, ascertain needs; assist the meeting of basic human needs, and support coping and adjustment. They can also register affected people.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Understand the changing nature of the event and its impact on affected people especially PWDs.
  • Provide Psychological First Aid to affected people visiting Centre (Look, Listen, Link)
  • Work closely with Case workers and medical personnel to provide required support to survivors.
  • Support in conducting door to door and mass awareness campaign.
  • Support in mobilization of community members.
  • Communicate in a caring, sensitive and courteous manner, ensuring appropriate personal boundaries are maintained and respected.
  • Work cooperatively at all times and actively contribute towards team effectiveness.
  • Practice self-care and encourage self-care of others.
  • Participate in team briefings and debriefings, providing updates as required.
  • Sensitivity to survivor’s reactions due to trauma and stress.

Requirements

  • Candidates should possess a minimum of FSLC qualification with at least 15 years relevant work experience.
  • Applicants must know how to read and write
  • Applicant must be currently living in the community of intervention
  • Females are preferred to apply for this position
  • Eligible applicant must be 18 years and above.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • N/A.

Accountability:

  • Reports Directly to: Community Case Workers, Psychiatric Nurses
  • Works Directly with: Finance, Program, MEL, and Operation Teams, partner staff.
