Overview of the American University Emerging Global Leader Scholarship
The American University Emerging Global Leader Scholarship, also known as AU EGLS, was established in 2011 by Evelyn Levinson, the Director of International Admissions. This scholarship aims to provide educational opportunities for international undergraduate students, while also promoting diversity at AU.
The AU EGLS is specifically designed for accomplished international students who wish to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in the United States. These students should demonstrate a strong commitment to making positive civic and social transformations.
The selected AU EGL recipient embodies the core values of AU, including academic excellence, leadership potential, and global engagement. They are dedicated to making a positive impact in their home country upon their return, particularly in underprivileged communities.
What expenses does the American University Emerging Global Leader Scholarship cover?
The AU EGL scholarship fully covers the billable expenses at AU, which include tuition, room, and board for one international student who requires a non-immigrant visa, preferably an F-1 or J-1 student visa, to study in the United States. However, it’s important to note that non-billable costs like mandatory health insurance, books, airline tickets, taxes, and miscellaneous expenses (approximately $4,000 per year) are not covered by the scholarship.
Please be aware that there is only one slot available for the AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarship for the Fall 2024 term. If you are not selected as the 2024 AU EGL recipient but still wish to proceed with the application, you may be eligible for partial merit scholarships. In such cases, you would need to provide evidence of additional funds beyond the initial $4,000 you submitted. The estimated expenses for the academic year 2024-2025 amount to $78,296.
