About Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program
The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program receives funding from the U.S. Department of State and is implemented by the Institute of International Education, with support from the U.S. Government.
Since its establishment in 1978, the program has welcomed nearly 6,500 fellows from 163 countries.
The Humphrey Fellowship is a distinctive non-degree exchange initiative designed for experienced mid-career professionals. It offers individuals from specific countries, including Nigeria, the opportunity to participate in a year-long graduate-level study program in the United States.
The program focuses on leadership development and building professional connections with American counterparts at selected U.S. universities.
Fellows benefit from a wide range of customized activities, providing extensive professional development tailored to their specific interests.
Prize Awarded by the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program
The scholarship covers various expenses including tuition and fees at the designated host university, pre-academic English language training if needed, a living allowance with a settling-in payment, accident and sickness insurance, a book allowance, a computer subsidy, and international and domestic travel related to the program.
Eligibility Requirements for the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program
To be eligible for the Humphrey Fellowship Program, applicants must:
- Be a citizen of an eligible country
- Hold an undergraduate (first university or Bachelor’s) degree
- Possess a minimum of eight years of full-time professional experience
- Have limited or no prior experience in the United States
- Demonstrate leadership qualities and a record of public service in the community
- Demonstrate English language proficiency with a minimum score of 100 on the Internet-based TOEFL (iBT) test

A complete application includes an online application with a well-developed program plan, detailed essays, uploaded academic records and curriculum vitae, two professional letters of reference, and a copy of the biodata page of a valid international passport. Hard copies of academic transcripts and additional supporting documents are also required.
