The overall goal of the Office Cleaner/Front Desk security Officer is to render janitorial services and monitor visitors’ activities within the IFPRI/Nigeria Office space.

Job Summary:

The Nigeria Strategy Support Program of the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI – NSSP) seeks an Office Cleaner/Security Receptionist for a one-year, renewable appointment in its Abuja Office. The Office Cleaner/Security receptionist will be responsible for cleaning the workspaces, including restrooms; emptying trash bins, cleaning windows, and dusting furniture, and performing other related duties to promote a tidy environment for all. In addition, he/she will assist in signing visitors in and out, taking phone calls, patrolling the premises, looking for signs of intrusion, investigating disturbances, contacting the police in case of emergency, and operating surveillance systems. He/She will also be assigned other duties as needed and work in close collaboration the Senior Program Assistant. The position will be based in Abuja, Nigeria.

Essential Duties:

Specific duties include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for floor care, performing various surface tasks, including vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, and spot-cleaning carpets of all office areas and non-production employee lounge
  • Maintenance of non-production employee lounge tables, chairs, and counters, carrying out tasks such as dusting, spraying, and cleaning
  • Removing trash in office areas and non-production employee lounge
  • Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing of restrooms daily
  • Cleaning of windows in conference rooms, management offices, etc.
  • Dusting, disinfecting, and polishing of surfaces and furniture as needed
  • Reporting repairs and replacements encountered when executing daily tasks.
  • Greet and welcome guests as soon as they arrive at the office
  • Direct visitors to the appropriate person and office
  • Answer, screen, and forward incoming phone calls
  • Ensure reception area is tidy and presentable, with all necessary stationery and material (e.g., pens, forms, and brochures)
  • Provide basic and accurate information in-person and via phone/email
  • Receive, sort, and distribute daily mail/deliveries
  • Maintain office security by following safety procedures and controlling access via the reception desk (monitor logbook, issue visitor badges)

Physical Demand & Work environment:

  • Employee will sit in an upright position for a long period of time. This is in addition to been able to reach, stretch, bend, and walk during daily routine, and stand for a long duration with ease.
  • Employee will lift between 25-30 pounds without assistance.
  • Employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities

Required Experience

Required Qualifications:

  • Candidates should possess a minimum of Ordinary National Diploma (OND) or its equivalent with proficiency in basic computer usage, office tasks and security
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team-oriented multi-cultural environment, and to communicate with a confident but friendly attitude
  • Ability to be proactive and self-motivated.
  • Professional level of attention to detail and accuracy of work.
  • Demonstrated fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Ability to restrain someone
  • Excellent ability to spot intruders or unusual activity
  • Ability to balance both security responsibilities and receptionist tasks
  • Professional level of attention to details including keen eye on visitors, safety violations, and security breaches, and accuracy of work
  • Ability to multi-task and consistently meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong background in cleaning products including, chemicals and supplies, and methods used in office cleaning.
  • Possess excellent knowledge of security protocols
  • Good communication skills, including the ability to read, write and speak English language
  • Professional, disciplined, and discreet attitude
  • Experience in Safety Data Sheets is desirable
