Purpose of the role

Our Technical Implementation Managers work with clients and the BAO team to manage and support the implementation of new and modified DHIS 2 client instances. The right candidate for this position excels at keeping track of the details and has an expert-ability to recognize red flags to avoid issues before they happen.

Technical Implementation Managers handle the day-to-day workflow and communication to ensure projects are completed within their scope, on time, and to specification. This is not an entry-level position. The Technical Implementation Manager works as a DHIS 2 Technical lead within the Implementation team throughout the lifecycle of a project. 

Travel may be required.

Core job responsibilities

  • Creating and managing project plans, monitor and review project progress and timelines, adjust schedules and plans as needed, and identify and resolve issues to ensure project success
  • Maintaining strong constructive relationships between clients and BAO Systems
  • Creating DHIS 2 technical design documents for complex projects as needed
  • Managing timely presentation and completion of deliverables and regular status updates
  • Identifying opportunities to leverage DHIS 2 and other custom development technologies
  • Facilitating weekly meetings and review sessions with the client and project teams
  • Preparation of user documentation and training documentation
  • Identifying and escalating project risks and issues before they become critical
  • Participating in weekly meetings with the Implementation and Delivery group to discuss progress and issues to be resolved
  • Assist in project kick-off meeting and provide input on requirements gathering documentation
  • Support DHIS2 project implementation
  • Other duties as assigned

Required skills/experience

  • Client-facing (external consulting) experience is required
  • Demonstrated project leadership skills, with direct responsibility for managing project teams and schedules
  • Demonstrated history of delivering high-quality results on schedule, and within budget
  • Ability to translate client needs into solutions that work for the client and the company
  • Outstanding and effective interpersonal skills; along with strong communication skills both verbal and written, including an ability to translate technical jargon into client-appropriate communication
  • Understanding of internet technology, development processes, and database structure
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities and perform problem analysis and resolution at strategic and functional levels
  • High level of customer service orientation
  • Impeccable attention to detail
  • Manage and communicate with remote developers
  • Ability and willingness to work in a fast-paced, demanding, and sometimes unstructured environment

Desired skills/experience

  • DHIS 2 (and other Health Information System) implementation experience highly desired
  • Experience working remotely with global teams
  • Experience with meeting facilitation and/or leading workshops
  • Professional proficiency in French or Spanish is a plus
  • Candidates should ideally haveĀ  some project experience, preferably with health information systems in the developing world, and strong communication skills to work across a variety of skill levels and international settings.
